About SSE Airtricity

SSE Airtricity started life as Airtricity, founded in Dublin in 1997 as a wind energy developer and supplier. SSE plc, the UK-listed energy group, bought it in 2008, and it now supplies electricity and gas to homes and businesses across the island of Ireland.

SSE Airtricity is still part of SSE plc. It is not owned by OVO: OVO bought SSE’s household supply business in Great Britain in 2020, which doesn’t include Ireland.

Its business customers manage their accounts through SSE Airtricity Business Online. We compare its electricity and gas prices for SME and large users.

How switching works

Switching to SSE Airtricity

  1. 1 Send us a recent bill. From your current supplier, with your MPRN or GPRN.
  2. 2 We get an SSE Airtricity price for your usage and compare it with Energia, Flogas, Pinergy, Electric Ireland and Yuno Energy.
  3. 3 Sign digitally. We send the agreement to sign online.
  4. 4 SSE Airtricity registers the switch. Your old supplier sends a closing bill based on a meter read on the switch date.

Switching away from SSE Airtricity

  1. 1 Check your end date. Your SSE Airtricity contract sets out the end date and any notice period.
  2. 2 We compare the market and time your new contract to start when the old one finishes.
  3. 3 Sign digitally. We handle the paperwork with your new supplier.
  4. 4 SSE Airtricity sends a closing bill. Your supply doesn’t stop at any point.

SSE Airtricity questions

Yes. SSE Airtricity supplies business electricity and natural gas, and we can compare both for you.

Check the terms of your SSE Airtricity contract first, as fixed-price contracts can carry an early exit fee. We usually line up your switch for the end date.

No. Your MPRN and GPRN belong to your meter, not your supplier, so they stay the same.

SSE Airtricity doesn’t publish a single business price list. Your rate depends on your meter type, how much you use, your connection and when you fix the price, and it moves with the wholesale market. Send us a recent bill and we’ll get you SSE Airtricity’s current price alongside the other suppliers we compare.

SSE Airtricity business customers use Business Online, its account portal for business customers.

SSE Airtricity lists its current business numbers and opening hours on its business contact page.

SSE Airtricity is owned by SSE plc. OVO bought SSE’s household business in Great Britain, not SSE Airtricity in Ireland.

No. Your online account is between you and your supplier, and we don’t use your login. To compare prices we only need a recent bill.

SSE Airtricity disclosed a fuel mix of 100% renewable for 2024 in the CRU’s Fuel Mix Disclosure (published December 2025). Figures for 2025 are due around December 2026.

Once your contract is signed we send it to your new supplier for registration. If all the details are correct, your account is usually active within 4 weeks. Very large sites (LVMD) and some interval-metered accounts can take longer because ESB Networks needs a meter read.

Yes. We compare SSE Airtricity alongside Energia, Flogas, Pinergy, Electric Ireland and Yuno Energy.

Our service is free to you. We’re paid a commission by the supplier you choose, and it doesn’t change the price you’re quoted.
